Penelope Billington wanted a website that would showcase her paintings for prospective buyers. Miss Billington wanted the design to be artistic and very graphic oriented. I was given over 20 pictures of paintings that the client had completed and the details about each one. I designed a simple portfolio page with thumbnails for each picture that when clicked, opened onto it's own page with further details about that picture. On this page, to maintain the quality of the close up shot, I made the images the best possible quality and added a loading sign so that the viewer knew that the image was just loading when they initially browse to the page for the first few seconds of viewing. After creating the portfolio I discussed with the client about other information to have on the website. We decided upon news, about penelope, contact information and an interactive comments page where a buyer could leave a comment about a painting as they please.

Throughout the design and creation process we worked together to realise the clients' ideals of the finished project. Quite a lot of the design ideas came straight from Penny such as the background image being part of a painting that she had created - not to mention the logo banner was designed solely by Miss Billington.

This was the first design that I have completed that used PHP - a programming language that pulls data from a database connected to the website. This was used to create the interactive comments page. I shall be using this again in the future I am sure. This was also the first website that was very heavily graphically based, and it was quite a difference working with so many images that needed to maintain the best quality possible as much as possible. Overall I have had a lot of fun creating this website, and it was a lot of work, but both myself and the client are very happy with the final outcome. Penelope can now give potential buyers somewhere to sit back and take a look at all of her unique artwork, without having to physically see it.
