9:33 AM 22/06/2008 - Back From Holiday, A New Job And Mr Show

I have been back at work now for a few weeks since we returned from our 2 week holiday to Scotland and England (and partly Wales). The holiday was very successful I would say. In Scotland, A.J. and I stayed at a nice cottage with my parents with quite a few lakes around us. We spent our time going on walks, visiting Culzean castle, visiting gardens and shopping in Edinburgh. Edinburgh was pretty crazy because they have road works everywhere for the tram system that they are putting in. The shopping was pretty good but I wouldn't say anything amazing... A.J. had a nice time shopping at Zavvi (renamed from Virgin Records recently). In England we went out together shopping and visited relatives. We also went to Alton Towers with Penny and Dave (my sister and her boyfriend). Alton Towers is a big theme park in the UK. It was the first time that I've been to a theme park (besides visiting the same place when I was 2 but that doesn't count) and it was quite a lot of fun. We went on the river rapids and got a photo taken, and on the log flume that has recently turned into a bath thing with ducks and stuff... yeah there was a part where this big rubber duck jumps out at you with scarey duck music... that was wierd! Overall the holiday was quite a success and much enjoyed!

I was sick last week for a couple of days off work from a very bad cold and cough. I have never had it that bad before and it lasted so long too - usually a cold is very quick to leave for me.

When I got back from the holiday I started my new job position (even though it's a temp job for 4 months it has very good prospects of becoming permanent). It's in the QA department, so it's testing Quickbooks basically... going through test case suites and logging any bugs that you find and need to be fixed or dealt with in some other way. I have had 1 week full time there so far, because 2 weeks was spent half days on the phones in the call centre still doing outbound calls. The whole idea of those outbound calls to Pro Advisors was so stupid! I had to phone them and ask if they had Quickbooks 2008 installed and if they recommend it... I mean sure that's a little neat idea but the planning was so bad! There was only 2 of us and we were to contact 5,700 people in 2 weeks! If you drill down and look at the statistics on that you will clearly see how ridiculous a suggestion that is. We got a few hundred done by the 2 weeks were over, but of course I didn't expect to get any more done and was actually surprised at what we did get finished. Anyway, now I'm full time in QA and am enjoying it a lot more than working in the call centre. I love that I can make my own schedule (8hrs a day of work is the only rule); I love that if I want I can sit in peace and work or I can listen to music; I love that I can work at my own pace when I am busy instead of having the constant pressure of having to take calls from people. Overall I am very glad that I got this position (and it was pretty hard work to get to it too considering the number of applicants and positions). When my 4 months is over I want to either go to the web development team or become permanent in QA and wait for a position on their team to open up later. All is well!

Also, on a side note, I have been watching a lot of Mr Show recently. There was this really funny sketch where America was going to blow up the moon. You can watch it here:
